Please see our privacy policy.
Is there a minimum age for lessons?
The minimum age is 7 in order to wear the mermaid tail, and no maximum age! Kids are welcome to our mermaid entertainment parties. The mermaid will have fun with them but parents still need to watch and attend to their kids
Do I have to know how to swim to participate?
Yes. For classes, all participants must be comfortable in the water and be able to swim at least 25 meters, tread water for 1 minute, and float on your front and back without assistance before swimming in a mermaid tail.
Swimming in a tail is harder than swimming without one because your legs are literally strapped together. If you cannot do the minimum swimming listed above, we recommend taking regular swimming lessons until you’re able to do it. We can also provide regular swim training.
Kids that are not good swimmers must wear floaters during our water events.
Is mermaiding safe?
Water is the mermaids’ element. Even if they can invite you into their world, it is not so much the case for humans. Therefore, there is always a risk factor for any aquatic activity. However, your safety is our team’s priority. We are experienced instructors with a passion for education, and dedicated to aquatic safety. The classes start in shallow water. Our mermaids instructors are qualified swimmers and certified in First Aid & Safety.
We require a minimum swimming ability of at least 25 meters and 1 minute of treading water unassisted in order to swim in the tails.
When wearing a mermaid tail, always ensure you swim with a buddy. Kids should always be supervised by an adult.
Can people come and just watch or do they have to pay?
Friends and family are welcome to watch the class and take photos at no additional cost.
Can guys do it?
All mermaids, mermen, merfolks, and merpeople are welcome, from any shape, size and colour! We have a monofin that fits up to men’s shoe size 11 (ladies 13).

You are welcome as long as you credit and link MerMagias for each image you use. You may not use the photos for commercial use (to sell your own product), social media posts unaccompanied by an article, or in any way to disparage MerMagias or any other mermaids.
